This past Thursday, the Playstation Store was updated with a free application called “adhocParty”. This is an amazing application that allows you to play PSP Games that don’t support online play….online! Ok so before I go further on how awesome this is, here’s what you need:

  • A PSP System or PSPgo
  • A PS3 with Built-in Wi-Fi (Sorry 20GB owners!!)
  • The PS3 must be connected to the internet via Ethernet Cable and not via Wi-Fi (If you use wi-fi to game online, you can’t use adhocParty)
  • An Ad-Hoc supported PSP Game such as Gran Turismo (PSP).

So to start off you download the application from the Playstation Store on your PS3 Console.
Your PSP must be connected to your PS3 for remote play, this is done under “remote play settings” on the XMB.
Go to Register Device, and connect your PSP via USB Cable to your PS3 and click Register.
Install the application, then boot it up.
Press start to continue and then you’re greeted with a circular menu.
This menu lists all the servers you can join with your friends and random people to get an online game rolling.
Within the server you are able to control your “stick avatar” to move around the room and move into “houses” where games are being hosted or played.
You can chat with players via Headset or Text in the server or in the house (where a game is hosted.)
You can also start your own “house”, name it the game you are going to play and persons with that game will enter and challenge you.
Once in a room, you must have the PSP Game booted up and at the Ad-Hoc menu of the game.
When you enter the ad-hoc menu on your PSP and search for games, the PS3 will locate your PSP and a little PSP icon will light up in adhocParty to indicate connectivity.
You can then host an adhoc game which will appear to other players as if you were in the same room with them, just over the Playstation Network.
From there set-up your game and play online!

Yes I know this is all very complicated in words, thats why Sony has done us all a favor and created a walkthrough video of this great service:
